Dillon Accepts Baseball Scholarship at University to Northwestern Ohio

Dillon is a baseball and hockey standout.

Avon Lake hockey and baseball standout Alex Dillon signed a national letter of intent Nov. 9 to play baseball at the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima.

Dillon said the university’s atmosphere—including the baseball team’s—made the school a first choice.

“It has a great family atmosphere,” Dillon said, who said the family-oriented atmosphere and academic program gave the college an edge.

Dillon said he plans on studying business at the school. Racers baseball, which participates in the NAIA D-II Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference, went 20-28 last season. The university introduced baseball in 2010.

Family members, coaches and school administrators gathered at offering congratulations to Dillon who plays outfield, pitcher and centerfield.

Dillon, who also considered Ohio Northern Univeristy, expressed gratitude to his parents, Mike and Anna as well as Avon Lake coaches for their continued support.

Avon Lake athletic director Tom Barone led a brief ceremony that included school officials and baseball coach Jeff Stratton and concluded with Dillon’s signing.

Dillon was referred to as “a better athlete, a better young man and a better student,” and the epitome of the student athlete.”

Coach Stratton commended Dillon’s flexibility on the baseball field.
“This goes for all the Dillons, they’re consummate team players, wherever we need them, that’s where they’ll go,” Stratton said.
