Jason Taylor, Andrew Davis Homer as Crushers Win a Big One

Victory over division-leading Joliet Slammers keeps Crushers ahead in playoff chase

Andrew Davis and Jason Taylor both homered as the stayed in the lead for the second and final Frontier League Eastern Division playoff spot with a 7-3 win Wednesday night over the Joliet Slammers in Joliet, Ill.

The Crushers (44-41) snapped a three-game losing streak stay a half-game ahead of the Traverse City Beach Bums for second place in the division. The Beach Bums beat the Rockford RiverHawks, 8-6, Wednesday.

Taylor's two-run shot in the top of the fourth gave the Crushers a 2-1 lead, the team reported. After tying the game at 3 in the top of the seventh, the Crushers got a three-run blast from Davis and an RBI single from Kellen Kulback in the eighth inning to pull away.

Chris Allen (3-2, 1.56 earned run average) pitched 1 2/3 innings of relief to get the win, giving up no runs on two hits while striking out two.

The Crushers and Slammers play the final game of their series at 8:05 p.m. Thursday. Eric Gonzalez-Diaz (2-0, 3.20) gets the start for the Crushers.
