Crushers offense gets going to end two-game slide

The wasted no time building a big lead Tuesday night, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning, and went on to beat the Gateway Grizzlies, 9-3, in Sauget, Ill.

According to a report from the team, the Crushers (19-24) sent 10 batters to the plate in the first. The big hit of the inning was a grand slam by Kyle Shaffer, the first grand slam for the Crushers this season.

Joel Collins and Andrew Davis, both named to the , each had two hits and two RBI. Jodam Rivera had two hits and scored two runs.

Randy Sturgill (2-0, 4.50 earned run average) pitched four innings of relief, giving up one run and one hit while srtiking out three, and got the win.

The two teams play at 8:05 p.m. Wednesday. Josh Roberts (3-3, 4.08) is slated to start for the Crushers.
