Lake Erie Crushers Loss Has Team On the Edge

Down two games to none to the Joiiet Slammers, Crushers must win Saturday to avoid elimination.

A strong performance by starting pitcher Eric Gonzalez-Diaz wasn't enough as the lost to the Joliet Slammers, 3-1, Thursday night in Joliet, Ill.

The loss has the Crushers down, 2-0, in the best-of-five Frontier League divisional playoff series. One more loss, and the season is over.

Gonzalez-Diaz struck out 10 batters, the team reported, giving up just two walks and five hits over seven innings. Unfortunately, two of those hits were solo home runs by Hector Pellot and Brandon Peters.

Jason Taylor's RBI single in the third brought in the Crushers' lone run.

Evan Sharpley and Chris Luick each had two hits for the Crushers. All-star shortstop Andrew Davis did not play for the fourth straight game after injuring his foot last weekend.

With their backs to the wall, the Crushers return home for game 3 at 7:05 p.m. Saturday at . Josh Roberts (10-6, 3.97 earned run average) will start for the Crushers.

If the Crushers win, game 4 is at 5:35 p.m. Sunday.
