Paddleboard Headstand By Yoga Instructor Kicks off New Class

Paddle board instructor Jim Lawhead kicked off a standup paddling yoga demonstration at the Ellen Trivanovich Aquatic Center by demonstrating an impressive feat: He did a headstand on a paddleboard that while floating in the municipal pool.

The city is now offering standup paddle board yoga on Tuesdays through Aug. 13 from noon -12:45 p.m. at the pool.

According to the city’s promotional information, the yoga offers a host of benefits, including improving balance, core strength and flexibility “while providing a
calming meditative tonic to your spirit.”

Classes are lead by Jim Lawhead of Lake Erie Paddler in Lorain.

Cost is $20 per lesson for residents and $30 for non-residents.

More lessons at Veterans Memorial Park

Paddle Board Lessons are also available at Veterans Memorial Park in Avon Lake on Sundays from 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. and 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. and Tuesdays from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Cost is $30 per class resident/$40 per class non-resident. Lawson will combine a beach tutorial and on-water coaching students will learn safety, basic footwork, balance, proper stance, transition to feet, paddle grip, and stroke techniques.  Each lesson last approximately 1.5 hours. All equipment is provided.
