Showing Your Support at a Cheer Station

As I write this it is Sunday.  The Komen 3 Day starts bright and early Friday morning.  I am getting anxious and am very much looking forward to the day.  It all begins at 5 A.M. when the walkers will drop their luggage off at the truck that will transport it to camp for us.  Thank goodness because all the stuff we have to take is heavy.  I will do one last check to be sure I have everything and any extras I want to take.  We all find things we know will be needed that are not on the list they give us.
One of the things you can do for the walkers is to cheer us along the way.  If you see us walking, honk you horn and cheer us.  We may need that on Saturday for sure.  I just checked the 10 day forecast and it calls for scattered thunderstorms.
Some people have asked what we do in the event of rain.  If it is just raining a little, then we continue walking.  If there are thunderstorms, we will be evacuated.  There will be buses dispatched to pick us us up and take us to a safe location.  There have been walks where the weather was so severe that they were taken from the route directly back to camp.  We camp at the Westlake Rec Center, so if the weather is too bad, we will evacuate to the Rec Center instead of our campsites.  This happened last year in the middle of the night.  The safety of the walkers is the main concern.
Back to what you can do for the walkers.  Each day there are what are called 'Cheer Stations.'  This is where the public is invited to gather and cheer us on en masse.  Here is a list of this year's Cheer Stations:  Friday
Start    Dock 32 Downtown Cleveland  7:00 - 7:30 AM
Mile 9.2 Lakewood Park   9:15 - 11:30
Mile 14.8 Rockport Plaza Rocky River  11:00 - 2:45

Saturday
Mile 10   Rocky River Presbyterian Church 8:45 - 12 noon
Mile 18.5  Energizer  Westlake  11:15 - 5

Sunday
Mile 4.4   Fatheads Restaurant  8:40 - 10:15
Mile 12.5  Middleburg Heights Community Center 11:00 - 2:35
Mile 60  Closing Ceremonies Cuyahoga Community College Parma, OH

If the walkers are passing you home or business they would appreciate your support with a sign or a bowl of candy.  Some people have sprinklers on if it is hot or bottles of water.  Having a trash can is nice, too.  We pick up all sorts of things along the way and do our very best not to litter, but sometimes our pockets just overflow.

Show your support and encourage us along the way.  It's a long walk for a good cause and your support is appreciated.
